Bhartrihari

Bhartrihari was a sanskrit poet of Ancient India. He wrote on all matters concerning the human life like friendship, education, ignorance, fate, morals, sex and renunciation. His ideas and suggestions are practical,
down to the earth and full of common sense which is notcommon.
The criteria he gives to select a friend are worth knowing by every person particularly by the young who stand at the threshold of entering an active and useful life.

In a verse on the qualities of a friend he says

Friend shines with these qualities
HE turns his friend away from the sin
Imbues his friend with matters of virtuous conduct
Hides the secrets of his friend
Nourishes his character
Does not desert in the hour of need and danger
Gives when his friend is in want
--------------------------------------------------

In two interesting episodes Bhartrihari describes the power of God which people call Fate, on the lives of both human and non humanliving things.

A certain bald headded person walking in the hot Sun,having his head scorched by the hot sunrays ran quickly and stood in the shade of a palmyra tree. But alas! his head was broken with great sound by the speedy impact of its falling fruit!Dangers follow to the place where the person who is strongly smitten by God goes!
A snake charmer caught hold of a snake and put it in basket with lid on and some weight over it.The snake was frightened and lost all hopes of escape.Further it was tired too.The night set in.A rat made a hole to the basket and went in to the basket ,perhaps in search of food. The snake killed the rat ,swallowed it and made its escape to freedom through the same hole made by the rat.At any time, for harm or growth God alone is the cause!!

The boy goes to school

The boy goes to school, dressed up smartly and with baggage
Of books, lunch box and water bottle
To nourish his brain and also his brawn
walking briskly to discover new worlds and horizons
Both the inner and outer;the inner, his latent talents and defects
Now a days his physical and mental strength and stamina too
In carrying the weight of the school bag!
The outer that surrounds him with its varying ramifications and
Contradictions ever grouping and ever changing and regrouping
like pieces in a kaleidoscope and moving clouds in the sky
To understand, appreciate, arrive at common principles, apply them
In finding solutions to the problems that confront him
Fighting against odds to shape the outcome to his advantage
In the unseen but sure future
He is like a mountaineer with his kit, cilmbing up
To reach the summit braving the testing weather and avalanches!

On every return after the day's arduous work
And a short refresh, the pleasing words of the boy
Spoken ,attempting to articulate
About his adventures in his new world
To his parents, are drops of nectar and notes of joy
And before their mind's eye the future wellbred ,polished
Accomplished and equipped promising young hero stands
Making them to forget for the while the burden and restraint
Of finance they bear to give the best education to their son
And with sweet dreams of the future they sleep but
To wake up before the following daybreak
Well in advance of the inevitable horn of the school bus
To prepare the boy to the day's ordeal
And the boy dressed up smartly readies himself for his next adventure
Unmindful of other things except his newworlds!!!

Memories

Treasure your sweet memories
And discard the bitter
Sweet memories exhilarate
And the bitter drag down
The sweet are the wings
To touch the ends of the skies of joy
And the bitter sit on us in the abyss of gloom
To make us irrelevant in the present

Think over

In places not favourable,we should not boast of our superiority.

Appearing low does not mean our smallness.

Does not a hill appear small in a mirror1

Strengthen your English

Strengthen your English
Improve your vocabulary
--
.
A person is said to be strong at a language only when he acquires
soundly the four skills of the language viz.speaking, understanding,
reading and writing. In exhibiting these skills vocabulary plays a
major role. Possession of command over a large number of words is like
having ready money in one's own bank account The more we improve our
vocabulary the more the number of words we will have at our command. A
large number of words at our beck and call places us in good stead in
displaying the above four skills. But how can we improve our
vocabulary?

For this purpose words may be classified in to four kinds- Strangers
Acquaintances, Relatives and Friends. Strangers are those words which
we come across for the first time. We do not have any previous
knowledge about them. As and when we come across them we get some what
closer to and familiar with them Getting closer to a word implies our
knowing its meaning .spelling .pronunciation, and usage which also
includes the niceties in using the word to give special flavour to the
language we employ to better efficiency and proficiency our speech and
writing and which also enables us to understand and appreciate when
others use such language. When we achieve these tasks to a
considerable level with regard to the words, they become our relatives
that can be relied upon .But we all know that there is a difference
between a relative and a friend. Our good friends are more reliable,
dependable trustworthy, and helpful than most of our relatives .In
fact we believe our friends and share with them even our personal
secrets. We approach them freely with out any reservation and seek
their advice and help. In the case of relatives we feel and face many
constraints.

Hence our vocabulary widens and our use of language becomes more
effective when we have complete knowledge of a larger number of words.
When we know the words fully they become our friends and always be with
us in our memory or our word bank. They help us to express our
thoughts clearly, succinctly and effectively with full authority .If
one is eager to improve one's vocabulary one should make more and more
strangers one's acquaintances, more and more acquaintances-relatives
and more and more relatives-friends. Ultimately how one can achieve
this depends on one's interest and effort

God's hesitation!

A certain sensible person was going in the hot Sun.He wanted take rest for some time.He sighted a tree by the road side and walked in to its shade. While preparing himself to sit down he exclaimed,''OhGod!!!''. Pat came a sound,''I am not here''.

The man said loudly,''I hear the God is the Truth. But while talking ,You deny Your presence. What doYou mean by this ,I can't understand.''

The voice was heard again,''You are correct. But my existence to you depends on your

belief in my existence.Nowadays the number of people who lose faith in my existence

is increasing day by day which makes me to question my very existence and hence

this hesitation!

Salutations to Yama, the god of death!

I salute yama ,the god of death, who is incorruptible!

If he were so, there would not be a single poor being on the earth...

The logic is ...The rich would grease his palm and survive.

The poor would diappear as they could not bribe.

They struggle even to make the bothends meet!

The creation- the universe-the world

Isaavaasya upanishad

All things, both living and non living, exist with in God.

Therefore man should take those things which are created for him

by God and which he really needs.Nobody should covet things of

others.By such sacrifice alone he should support himself and live

and not by coveting things of others!
